The 27th of May has been set aside to honor children in Nigeria. The day draws attention to and raises awareness about the challenges that children face. The pandemic disrupted the educational sector and left many children out of school. For many students in Nigeria, the pandemic interrupted schooling and access to critical school-provided facilities.

This implies that the future of children in Nigeria is harmed by illiteracy, the growing digital divide, and poor quality education. The consequence of such shortages therein leads to conflicts, increased crime rates, and other social divides. Therefore, Children’s day 2022 presented a unique chance to affirm ADI’s commitment to bridging the digital divide, ensuring gender equality, promoting the SDGs, and ensuring children have access to quality education.

Every year, individuals and organizations engage in various activities to mark this special occasion all around the globe; Adesso Development Initiative was not left out. We decided to partner with Jae’s Kids Corner to make this happen since it is in our nature to find ways to engage children and provide platforms for young people to express themselves

JKC is a kids club based in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, which has taken it upon itself to cater to children’s well-being. Its goal is also to harness talents in these children’s little capacities. They have a track record of providing opportunities for children from underprivileged backgrounds. And giving them a platform to thrive.

On Friday the 27th of May, it was all funfair and galore at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Abakaliki premises which hosted and provided a fantastic experience for the children. The day’s highlights included a lecture on the SDGs by Adesso Development Initiative, and youths can get involved. In addition, the children were treated to games and participated in competitions as the winners emerged with prices. We also promoted our Tech4Girls program.

Tech4Girls is a skill acquisition training program designed to bridge the digital knowledge divide between young boys and girls by training young women in underserved communities across Nigeria.

Every year as we celebrate children’s day, it is essential to remember that Nigeria’s future is primarily dependent on the well-being of its children and youth. The greater the assurance of a child’s well-being through the development of proper support structures, the more confident Nigeria can be in its future generations. A youngster who grows up in a safe and nurturing environment is more likely to cope well as an adult, improve their level of living, and care for the elderly.
